Colospa Retard Capsule is a medicine used to manage symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and similar digestive conditions. It helps relieve painful abdominal cramps, persistent bloating, flatulence, and changes in bowel habits such as diarrhoea or constipation.
It contains mebeverine and belongs to a group of medicines called antispasmodics. It acts directly on the smooth muscles of the intestine to relax them and relieve spasms, thereby relieving gut discomfort without affecting normal bowel motility or causing significant dry mouth.
Dietary and lifestyle adjustments are key components of managing irritable bowel syndrome. These include identifying and avoiding personal trigger foods (such as spicy, fatty, or high-gas foods), eating smaller and regular meals, increasing dietary fibre carefully, and reducing stress levels.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any severe liver or kidney problems, a history of intestinal blockage, or are taking other medicines. It is usually taken as prescribed before meals. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should seek medical advice before starting treatment.
