Cepodem 100 Tablet contains cefpodoxime proxetil (100 mg), which carries out its action in the body as follows:

• Inhibits Bacterial Cell Wall Synthesis: Cefpodoxime proxetil becomes active when it changes into cefpodoxime inside your body. It works by attaching to proteins that are essential for making peptidoglycan - a key component of bacterial cell walls. By binding to these proteins, known as penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), cefpodoxime inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan.

• Causes Bacterial Lysis: Without a strong cell wall made up of peptidoglycan, bacteria become vulnerable and can't withstand outside pressure. This leads to osmotic lysis, a process where water enters the bacterial cell, causing it to swell and burst. This bactericidal action of cefpodoxime helps manage the infection and provides relief from symptoms.
