Augpen DS Suspension is used to treat bacterial infections in children.

Uses of Augpen DS Suspension are:

• Respiratory and ENT Infections: Treats tonsillitis, sinusitis, ear and chest infections.
• Skin and Dental Infections: Treats skin infections and dental abscesses.
• Urinary Infections: Treats urinary tract infections.

Your child should be given Augpen-DS Suspension as per these instructions:

• Shake the bottle well before adding the sterile water from the ampoule provided with the pack.
• Shake the bottle vigorously to mix the suspension well.
• Measure out your child's dose using a spoon or cup for accuracy. Do not guess the quantity.
• Remember to consult your doctor for specific instructions on how to give this medicine to your child.

Augpen-DS Suspension is given orally.

Augpen-DS Suspension contains two active ingredients:

• Amoxicillin (400 mg): This semisynthetic aminopenicillin works by interfering with the production of bacterial cell walls. It binds to proteins in the bacterial cell wall called penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are crucial for constructing the cell wall. This weakens the cell wall and causes it to break down, leading to the death of the bacteria.
• Clavulanic Acid (57 mg): Clavulanic acid doesn't have much antibacterial activity on its own but plays a vital role in protecting amoxicillin from degradation. It's a β-lactamase inhibitor that binds to β-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria. These enzymes can break down amoxicillin and make it ineffective, but clavulanic acid prevents this, thus extending amoxicillin's effectiveness against more types of bacteria.
• Together, these two components work synergistically to kill a wider range of bacteria than if amoxicillin were used alone.

• Store the Augpen-DS Suspension in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
• After mixing, store the reconstituted oral suspension in the refrigerator between 2-8°C.
• Don't freeze the suspension.
• Keep it out of reach of children.
• Remember to administer the reconstituted suspension within seven days of preparation.
