Atonide 0.05% Gel is used to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema), relieving redness, itching and swelling of the skin. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing desonide, a mild corticosteroid (steroid), and belongs to a class of medicines called topical corticosteroids.
This medicine can be used in adults and in children aged 3 months and above. Its mild strength makes it suitable for more sensitive areas when your doctor advises. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin twice a day and rub in gently, as prescribed, and stop once the skin is under control. It is not usually used for more than 4 weeks in a row.
Moisturise the skin regularly with a gentle, fragrance-free cream, avoid harsh soaps and very hot water, and wear loose cotton clothing to reduce friction and irritation.
This gel is for use on the skin only; keep it away from the eyes. Before using it, tell your doctor if you have a skin infection, acne, rosacea or broken skin, and about other skin products you use. Do not cover the treated skin with airtight dressings or, in babies, tight nappies unless your doctor advises. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and contact your doctor if there is no improvement within 4 weeks or the skin gets worse. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
