Aldonil OD Tablet contains Epalrestat (150 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Aldose Reductase Inhibition: Epalrestat blocks an enzyme called aldose reductase in your body. This enzyme normally converts excess glucose into sorbitol in people with high blood sugar.

• Sorbitol Reduction: By inhibiting the aldose reductase enzyme, the medicine decreases the production and buildup of sorbitol in the nerves.

• Prevention of Osmotic Stress: Reducing sorbitol accumulation helps prevent osmotic stress in nerve cells. Osmotic stress is a condition where too much fluid enters cells, causing them to swell and become damaged.

• Neuroprotection: Through these actions, epalrestat helps protect nerves from further damage, slowing down the progression of diabetic neuropathy.
