CompositionZyrCold Syrup is used to relieve a cough with mucus that occurs along with allergy or cold symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose. It is a combination medicine containing ambroxol, a mucolytic that thins mucus, and cetirizine, an antihistamine (anti-allergic).
This medicine is also used to ease symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, a runny nose and watery eyes, when these come with a chesty cough. It helps loosen phlegm so it is easier to cough up. Measure each dose with the cup provided and take it with or without food, as prescribed by your doctor.
Drinking warm fluids can help thin mucus, and steam inhalation may ease chest congestion. Avoiding smoke, dust and other allergy triggers can reduce irritation of the airways.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, epilepsy, a stomach ulcer, or difficulty passing urine, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving and alcohol if affected. Contact your doctor if the cough lasts more than a week, comes with a high fever or breathlessness, or if you cough up blood. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
