Zycolchin Tablet is used to treat acute gout attacks and to manage familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) in adults and children. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing colchicine, and belongs to a class of medicines used to treat gout.
This medicine helps relieve the joint pain, swelling and inflammation caused by uric acid crystals in gout, and helps prevent further flares. Familial Mediterranean fever is an inherited condition that causes repeated episodes of fever and inflammation. Take it exactly as prescribed. Do not increase the dose without your doctor's advice, as colchicine has a narrow safety margin. Use the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor.
Staying well hydrated, following dietary advice to reduce purine-rich foods such as red meat, organ meats and shellfish, and keeping to all monitoring appointments can support better management of gout alongside this medicine.
Tell your doctor about any kidney, liver or blood problems before starting this medicine, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take, as colchicine has serious interactions with certain medicines, including statins and cyclosporin. Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Report persistent severe diarrhoea, muscle weakness or unusual numbness or tingling immediately, and report any side effects that persist or become serious. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
