Zoxan 500 Tablet is used to treat bacterial infections. This broad-spectrum antibiotic helps manage infections in the chest, urinary tract, skin, and other areas caused by harmful bacteria, supporting faster recovery from fever, discomfort, and bacterial growth.

Zoxan 500 Tablet treats lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gastrointestinal (GI) tract infections, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), infectious diarrhoea, typhoid, fever, uncomplicated gonorrhoea, plague in adult and children population and chronic bacterial prostatitis.

Zoxan 500 Tablet is used in the treatment of:

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP): It is a lung infection seen outside healthcare facilities. It is caused by organisms such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Bronchitis: It is inflammation of the airways in the lungs which leads to breathing difficulties.
Cystitis: It is the inflammation of the urinary bladder, often caused by bacterial infection. Cystitis is caused by bacteria like E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Prostatitis: It is the inflammation of the prostate gland, which can cause urinary difficulties and pelvic pain.
Gonococcal infection: a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria.
Septic arthritis: It is a bacterial joint infection that causes painful joint swelling due to bacterial invasion.
Cystic fibrosis: It is an inherited condition causing thick lung mucus leading to complications such as Pneumonia.
Pyelonephritis: It is kidney inflammation caused by bacterial infection spreading from the urinary tract.
Anthrax: It is a rare and severe bacterial infection transmitted through contaminated air, food, or water.

Swallow it as a whole with water after your meal to avoid stomach discomfort.
Do not cut, break or chew the medicine.
Take Zoxan 500 Tablet at a fixed time for best results.

The Zoxan 500 Tablet should be taken orally.

The common side effects of Zoxan 500 Tablet include:

Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhoea
Indigestion
Joint Pain
Urticaria (Hives)

Managing the Side Effects:

Some of the side effects are temporary and generally harmless which resolve on discontinuing Zoxan 500 Tablet. However, if you experience any serious side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

Zoxan 500 Tablet contains the following component:

Ciprofloxacin (500 mg): It is a quinolone antibiotic that works by blocking two critical bacterial enzymes, DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are crucial for bacterial DNA replication and repair. By inhibiting these enzymes, ciprofloxacin stops the bacteria from multiplying and spreading the infection.

Pregnancy

It is preferred to avoid the use of Zoxan 500 Tablet in pregnancy. It is advised to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before taking this medicine.

Breastfeeding

Zoxan 500 Tablet is not recommended for breastfeeding women as it may be excreted into breast milk and harm the baby. Consult your doctor before taking a Zoxan 500 Tablet while breastfeeding.

Alcohol

Refrain from drinking alcohol while using the Zoxan 500 Tablet as it may lead to increased dizziness. Consult your doctor before taking the Zoxan 500 Tablet.

Liver

Be cautious when using the Zoxan 500 Tablet if you have liver disease. The dosage might need adjustments, so consult your doctor. However, patients with severe liver disorders should avoid taking Zoxan 500 Tablet.

Kidney

If you have kidney disease, be cautious when using the Zoxan 500 Tablet. Consult your doctor for guidance. However, patients with severe kidney disorders should avoid taking the Zoxan 500 Tablet.

Using Machines & Driving

Zoxan 500 Tablet can cause dizziness or drowsiness, which may affect driving or operating machinery. Patients should avoid such tasks until they know how the medicine affects them.

Allergy

Patients who are allergic to Zoxan 500 Tablet or quinolone antibiotics should not use this medication.

Children

Zoxan 500 Tablet is used in children but only with the advice of the doctor.

Older Patients

Use Zoxan 500 Tablet cautiously in elderly patients (above 60 years) with impaired kidney function. Please consult your doctor before taking it.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Zoxan 500 Tablet can interact with the following medicines:

Anticoagulants such as warfarin, acenocoumarol, phenprocoumon, and fluindione when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effects of anticoagulants.
Uricosuric agents such as probenecid when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effects of Zoxan 500 Tablet.
Bronchodilators such as theophylline when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effects of Zoxan 500 Tablet.
Alpha-2 adrenergic agonists such as tizanidine when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the side-effects of Zoxan 500 Tablet.
Antipsychotics such as olanzapine, clozapine, and risperidone when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effects of antipsychotics.
Anticonvulsants such as phenytoin when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and decrease the effects of phenytoin.
Antiarrhythmics such as quinidine, hydroquinone, disopyramide, and amiodarone when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effects of antiarrhythmics.
Tricyclic antidepressants such as doxepin and amoxapine when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effect of tricyclic antidepressants.
Macrolide antibiotics such as azithromycin and clarithromycin when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effect of macrolide antibiotics.
Vasodilators such as pentoxifylline when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effect of vasodilators.
Antidepressants such as agomelatine when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and increase the effect of antidepressants.
Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole when taken with Zoxan 500 Tablet may interact and decrease the effect of Zoxan 500 Tablet.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Zoxan 500 Tablet can interact with diseases, including:

Rheumatoid arthritis can worsen upon taking the Zoxan 500 Tablet.
Myasthenia gravis can worsen on taking the Zoxan 500 Tablet.
Tendonitis can worsen on taking Zoxan 500 Tablet.
Epilepsy can worsen upon taking the Zoxan 500 Tablet.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Zoxan 500 Tablet should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

If you or someone else takes an excessive amount of Zoxan 500 Tablet by accident, it is essential to take the patient to the nearest doctor. Symptoms of an overdose include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion, and urticaria.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take the dose of the Zoxan 500 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember it. If the time for the next dose is near, skipping the missed dose and resuming your regular dosage pattern is recommended.

Store this medicine at room temperature (15-25ºC).
Protect it from light and moisture.
Keep Zoxan 500 Tablet away from children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.

Refrain from alcohol as it can raise the risk of specific side effects, such as dizziness and drowsiness.
To avoid the development of bacterial resistance, do not discontinue before finishing the course.
