Valkem-OD 500 Tablet is used to manage epilepsy (recurrent seizures), including focal seizures and absence seizures. It contains divalproex sodium, an anticonvulsant, and is also used to stabilise mood in bipolar disorder and to prevent migraine headaches in adults.
Take it as prescribed, swallowed whole with water, without crushing or chewing. It can be taken with or without food. Continue taking it for as long as your doctor advises, and do not stop suddenly, as this can trigger seizures or a return of symptoms.
Keeping a regular sleep pattern, avoiding alcohol, and getting adequate rest can help support your treatment, particularly for epilepsy and mood stabilisation.
This medicine can cause serious harm to an unborn baby, so tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or could become pregnant, as effective contraception and specialist advice are needed. Also tell your doctor about any liver problems, bleeding disorders, or other medicines you take, as regular blood and liver monitoring may be needed. Report unusual bruising or bleeding, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or mood changes to your doctor promptly.
