It contains secnidazole, a nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal medicine. Take this tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually as a short course, and complete the full treatment even if your symptoms settle quickly, to ensure the infection is fully cleared.
Maintaining good personal hygiene, drinking safe or boiled water and washing hands before meals can help prevent reinfection with these parasites. Your partner may also need treatment if the infection is sexually transmitted, to avoid passing it back and forth.
Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after your last dose, as this combination can cause an unpleasant reaction. Tell your doctor if you have a blood disorder or liver problems before starting this medicine, and report persistent nausea promptly.
