Remestyp 1 MG Injection 10 ML is used for the following:

• Managing acute bleeding from oesophageal varices

• Controlling haemorrhage in patients with cirrhosis

• Emergency treatment of variceal bleeding

• Reducing blood flow in dilated oesophageal veins

• Preventing rebleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis

Follow these instructions when Remestyp 1 MG Injection 10 ML is administered:

• This medicine is administered by medical professionals in a hospital setting.

• The injection site should be monitored for any signs of irritation.

• You should remain lying down during and shortly after administration.

• Report any unusual sensations immediately to your doctor.

• Your vital signs will be monitored regularly during treatment.

• Do not attempt to self-administer this medicine at home.

Remestyp 1 MG Injection 10 ML is administered intravenously.

Remestyp 1 MG Injection 10 ML contains terlipressin (1 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Synthetic Vasopressin Analogue: Terlipressin is converted into lysine vasopressin in your body after administration, mimicking the effects of a natural hormone called vasopressin.

• Blood Vessel Constriction: It causes the blood vessels to narrow, particularly those supplying the oesophageal varices (enlarged veins in the food pipe), reducing blood flow to these areas.

• Pressure Reduction: By constricting blood vessels that feed into the portal venous system, terlipressin helps decrease the pressure in these vessels, which helps control bleeding from ruptured varices.

• Targeted Action: It primarily affects blood vessels in the digestive system, helping to stop bleeding while minimising effects on other body systems.

• Store this injection in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C.

• Do not freeze the injection.

• Keep this medicine in its original packaging to protect it from light.

• Store out of reach of children.

• Do not use this injection after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

• If you have liver cirrhosis, follow a low-salt diet to help reduce fluid buildup (ascites) in your abdomen, which can lower the risk of developing oesophageal varices.

• Stay well-hydrated and limit red meat to ease the liver’s workload and prevent toxin buildup.
