CompositionPentids 400 Tablet is used to treat bacterial infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, chest and skin, especially those caused by streptococcus bacteria. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing penicillin G (benzylpenicillin) 400,000 units, which belongs to a class of antibiotics called penicillins.
This medicine is also used to help prevent rheumatic fever from coming back in people who have had it. It works only against bacteria and will not treat viral infections such as colds or flu. Take it at evenly spaced times, ideally on an empty stomach, and complete the full course prescribed by your doctor.
Getting enough rest and drinking plenty of fluids can support recovery. Taking antibiotics only when prescribed helps reduce antibiotic resistance.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins or any other antibiotic, or if you have asthma, or kidney or liver disease, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop taking it and seek medical help straight away if you develop a widespread rash, swelling of the face or throat, or breathing difficulty. Contact your doctor if you have severe or watery diarrhoea. Do not stop taking this medicine for any other reason unless your doctor advises you to do so.
