Octride 0.05 MG Injection 1 ML is used for the following:

• Management of acromegaly

• Treatment of gastrointestinal hormone-secreting tumours

• Control of carcinoid tumours

• Management of neuroendocrine tumours

• Treatment of pituitary adenomas producing excess hormones

• Normalising thyroid function in certain conditions

• Controlling bleeding from oesophageal varices

• Reducing symptoms of hormone excess syndromes

Follow these instructions when Octride 0.05 MG Injection 1 ML is administered:

• This medicine must only be administered by a trained healthcare professional.

• The injection site should be rotated regularly to prevent skin reactions.

• Different administration techniques may be used depending on your condition.

• Your doctor will determine the most appropriate method for your situation.

Octride 0.05 MG Injection 1 ML is typically administered subcutaneously but may also be given intramuscularly or intravenously, depending on the clinical situation.

Octride 0.05 MG Injection 1 ML contains octreotide (0.05 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Somatostatin mimicry: Octreotide is a synthetic version of somatostatin, a naturally occurring hormone in your body that regulates several other hormones.

• Growth hormone inhibition: It binds to somatostatin receptors in the pituitary gland, suppressing the release of excess growth hormone and thereby helping control acromegaly symptoms.

• Gastrointestinal hormone suppression: Octreotide reduces the production of various digestive hormones, helping manage symptoms related to hormone-secreting tumours in the digestive system.

• Blood flow reduction: It decreases blood flow to the digestive organs, which helps control bleeding from enlarged veins in the oesophagus (food pipe) during emergencies.

• Store Octride 0.05 MG Injection 1 ML in a refrigerator between 2 and 8°C.

• Keep the vial in its original packaging to protect it from light exposure.

• Never freeze the medicine, as this can damage its structure.

• Store out of sight and reach of children.

• Check the expiry date, and do not use the injection after this date.

• If you have acromegaly (a condition where your body produces too much growth hormone), maintain a diet low in carbohydrates to help manage blood sugar levels, as octreotide can affect how your body processes glucose.

• For those with gastrointestinal hormone-secreting tumours, avoid foods high in amines (such as aged cheeses, cured meats, and fermented foods), which may trigger or worsen symptoms like flushing or diarrhoea.
