Neosporin Antibiotic Powder is used to prevent and treat bacterial infection in minor cuts, grazes, scratches and minor burns. It is a combination medicine containing three antibiotics, neomycin, polymyxin B and bacitracin, and belongs to a group of medicines called topical antibiotics.
This medicine is also used to help protect minor wounds and small surgical cuts from infection. The powder can be sprinkled onto the wound without rubbing. Clean and dry the area, then apply a light layer as directed by your doctor, and use it only for as long as advised.
Keeping the wound clean and dry, covering it with a clean dressing if advised, and washing your hands before and after caring for it can help healing.
This powder is for use on the skin only; keep it away from the eyes, nose and mouth. Before using it, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotic, or have kidney or hearing problems, and about other medicines you use. Do not apply it to deep or puncture wounds, animal bites, serious burns or large areas unless your doctor advises. Stop and contact your doctor if you notice a rash, swelling or spreading redness. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
