Neosporin Ointment is used to prevent and treat bacterial infection in minor cuts, scrapes and minor burns. It is a combination medicine containing three antibiotics, polymyxin B, neomycin and bacitracin, and belongs to a group of medicines called topical antibiotics.
This medicine is also used for minor skin infections and to help protect small wounds after minor surgery. Clean and dry the area, then apply a thin layer as advised by your doctor. Use it only for as long as recommended.
Keeping the wound clean, covering it with a clean dressing if needed, and washing your hands before and after applying the ointment can support healing.
This ointment is for use on the skin only; keep it away from the eyes, nose and mouth. Before using it, tell your doctor about any allergy to antibiotics, and about kidney or hearing problems. Do not use it on deep puncture wounds, animal bites, serious burns or large areas unless your doctor advises. Stop and contact your doctor if you notice redness, itching, a rash or swelling. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
