Medisalic Ointment is used to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis, especially where the skin is thickened or scaly. It is a combination medicine containing clobetasol propionate 0.05% and salicylic acid 3%, and belongs to a class of medicines called topical corticosteroid and keratolytic combinations.
This medicine works in two ways. Clobetasol, a potent corticosteroid, reduces the inflammation that causes redness, swelling and itching. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic that softens and removes thickened, scaly skin, which helps the clobetasol reach the skin better. Apply a thin layer only to the affected areas as directed by your doctor, and wash your hands afterwards. It is for external use only.
Avoid the face, eyes, genitals and broken skin, and avoid prolonged or widespread use. Because it contains a potent steroid, use it only for the period prescribed, as long-term use can thin the skin.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have a skin infection, if you use any other skin treatments or have used steroids for a long time, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if the skin condition gets worse, you notice signs of infection, or the irritation does not settle.
