CompositionKeppra Injection 5ml is used to control seizures in adults and children with epilepsy, including partial-onset seizures, myoclonic seizures, and generalised tonic-clonic seizures. It is given when treatment by mouth is not suitable, either on its own or alongside other anti-epileptic medicines.
It belongs to a group of medicines called anti-epileptics (anticonvulsants), which help steady the electrical activity in the brain to reduce seizures. This medicine is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse, usually as a short-term measure until you are able to take tablets or liquid by mouth. Continue using it exactly as advised by your care team, even if you feel well, as stopping suddenly can increase the risk of seizures.
Getting regular sleep, avoiding alcohol, and keeping a record of your seizures to share with your doctor can help support treatment. Avoid activities such as driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
Before this medicine is given, tell your doctor if you have any kidney problems, mood or mental health conditions, or are taking other medicines. Tell your doctor promptly if you notice low mood, unusual irritability, or changes in behaviour, as these can occur with this medicine. It should not be stopped suddenly; your care team will plan when to switch you to tablets or liquid and will review your treatment regularly.
