Glucored Tablet is used for the following:

Improving blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Assisting in managing your type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone don’t provide adequate control
Helping those patients who initially responded well to glibenclamide alone but need extra help to control their blood sugar
Supporting patients whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled on metformin alone

Here's how you should take Glucored Tablet:

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Do not crush, chew or break the tablet.
Always take this medicine with meals.
If you're unsure about any aspect of this medicine, consult your doctor for specific advice.

Glucored Tablet is taken orally.

While taking Glucored Tablet, you may encounter the following side effects:

Hypoglycaemia: This is a condition where your blood sugar levels drop lower than normal. You might feel shaky, hungry, or dizzy.
Diarrhoea
Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal pain
Metallic taste: You may notice that food and drink have a different, often unpleasant, taste.
Vitamin B12 deficiency: Long-term use of the medication can cause your body to absorb less vitamin B12 than it needs. This can lead to tiredness, light-headedness and loss of appetite.

Glucored Tablet contains two active ingredients that work together to lower blood glucose levels:

Glibenclamide (2.5 mg): This second-generation sulfonylurea stimulates more insulin secretion from the pancreatic beta cells by binding to and inhibiting ATP-sensitive potassium channels on the pancreatic beta cell membrane. This action leads to cell membrane depolarization and increased intracellular calcium, stimulating insulin secretion.
Metformin (400 mg): As a biguanide, metformin operates by decreasing hepatic glucose production and intestinal absorption of glucose whilst enhancing insulin sensitivity. This improves glucose uptake and utilisation in the body's periphery. Metformin activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a liver enzyme that plays a significant role in insulin signalling and the metabolism of glucose and fats.

Pregnancy

Glucored Tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, make sure to discuss this with your doctor before starting this medicine.

Breastfeeding

Glucored Tablet is contraindicated for breastfeeding/lactating women. Consult your doctor to understand the potential risks and benefits.

Alcohol

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Glucored Tablet as it can lead to increased risks of side effects such as lactic acidosis. It's best to consult your doctor for guidance.
