Eldoper Capsule is used to relieve sudden (acute) diarrhoea in adults. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing loperamide, which belongs to a class of medicines called antidiarrhoeals.
This medicine is also used, under medical supervision, to help control long-term diarrhoea in conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, and to reduce output from an ileostomy. It slows the movement of the gut, making stools firmer and less frequent. Take it as prescribed by your doctor and do not take more than the maximum daily dose.
Drinking oral rehydration solution (ORS) and plenty of clean fluids is essential to replace water and salts lost through diarrhoea. Eating light, easily digested food can help recovery.
Do not take this medicine if you have blood in your stools, a high fever, or diarrhoea after antibiotics, unless your doctor advises, as these may need other treatment. It is not suitable for young children. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, ulcerative colitis, a heart rhythm problem, or constipation, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop taking it and contact your doctor if you develop constipation, a swollen tummy, or if diarrhoea lasts more than 2 days. Do not stop taking this medicine for any other reason unless your doctor advises you to do so.
