Co-trimoxazole Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the urinary tract, lungs, ears and intestines. It is also used for traveller's diarrhoea and to prevent certain types of pneumonia in people with weakened immunity.
It contains sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, two antibacterials that work together. They block two steps the bacteria need to make folate, which stops them growing.
Take it exactly as prescribed, with plenty of water, and complete the full course even if you feel better.
Tell your doctor about any kidney problems or other medicines before starting. Drink plenty of fluids, avoid excessive sun exposure, and report any skin rash, or weakness or an irregular heartbeat, which can signal raised potassium.
