CompositionAsomex 5 Tablet 15 is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to prevent chest pain (angina). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing S-amlodipine 5mg, the active form of amlodipine, and belongs to a class of medicines called calcium channel blockers.
This medicine relaxes and widens the blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow to the heart. The 5mg strength is the maximum usual dose of S-amlodipine, and is roughly equivalent to 10mg of standard amlodipine. Take it at the same time, with or without food, and keep taking it even when you feel well. It does not relieve an angina attack that has already started.
Reducing salt, staying active, keeping a healthy weight and limiting alcohol help control blood pressure and protect the heart.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, heart failure, very low blood pressure or narrowing of the aortic heart valve, and about other medicines you take, especially other blood pressure medicines and certain antibiotics or antifungals. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you have marked ankle swelling, worsening chest pain, fainting or a fast or irregular heartbeat. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
