Alerfix Total Tablet SR is used to relieve allergic rhinitis and allergy-related cough with mucus, easing sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, watery eyes and chest congestion. It is a combination medicine containing levocetirizine (an antihistamine), montelukast (a leukotriene receptor antagonist) and ambroxol (a mucolytic) in a sustained-release form.
This medicine helps control allergy symptoms while loosening thick mucus so it is easier to cough up. Swallow the tablet whole, without crushing or chewing, once a day as directed by your doctor. It does not relieve a sudden asthma attack, so keep using your reliever inhaler if you have asthma.
Drinking plenty of fluids helps thin mucus. Avoiding dust, smoke, pollen and other known triggers can reduce flare-ups.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, epilepsy, a stomach ulcer, or a history of depression or other mental health problems, and about other medicines you take, including other cough or allergy remedies. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving and alcohol if affected. Contact your doctor straight away if you notice mood or behaviour changes, or worsening breathlessness or chest tightness. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
