Vitcofol Injection is used to treat deficiencies of B vitamins and folate that can lead to anaemia, nerve problems and tiredness. It is a combination medicine containing nicotinamide (vitamin B3), folic acid (vitamin B9) and cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12), and belongs to a class of medicines called B-complex vitamins.
This medicine works by replacing the vitamins the body is short of. Folic acid and vitamin B12 are needed to make healthy red blood cells, vitamin B12 also supports normal nerve function, and nicotinamide helps the body release energy from food. It is also used for anaemia caused by lack of vitamin B12 or folate. It is given into a muscle or a vein by a healthcare professional, who will decide the dose and the length of the course.
Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it can worsen vitamin deficiency.
Before treatment, tell your doctor about any allergy, kidney disease, gout or Leber's disease (an inherited eye condition), any other medicines you take, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor straight away if you develop a skin rash, swelling or difficulty breathing.
