CompositionValparin 500 Alkalets Tablet is used to control epilepsy (partial and generalised seizures). It is a single-ingredient anticonvulsant and mood stabiliser containing sodium valproate.
This medicine is also used to manage manic episodes in bipolar disorder and to help prevent migraine in adults. Take it with food in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop it suddenly, as this can trigger seizures. Regular blood tests check valproate levels and liver function.
Keep a regular sleep routine, take meals on time and avoid alcohol, as these support seizure control. Weight gain is common, so keep portions moderate.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver problems, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. This medicine can cause serious birth defects in an unborn baby, so women and girls who could become pregnant need reliable contraception. Report jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), unusual tiredness or unusual bleeding promptly. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
