It belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. It works by reducing inflammation and calming an overactive immune response. The dose is tailored to your condition; take it as directed, usually with food, and do not stop it suddenly, as the dose often needs to be reduced gradually under your doctor's guidance.
Because corticosteroids can affect bones, blood sugar, and the stomach, supportive measures may help. These include a diet with enough calcium and vitamin D, limiting added salt, and monitoring blood sugar if advised.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any infection, diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, or bone thinning, and any other medicines you take. Tell your doctor about signs of infection, mood changes, or slow wound healing, as this medicine can lower your resistance to infection.
