Piosys 15 Tablet is used to control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes, especially those with insulin resistance, together with diet and exercise. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing pioglitazone 15mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called thiazolidinediones (glitazones).
This medicine helps the body's cells respond better to insulin, lowering blood sugar. It can be used alone or with other diabetes medicines such as metformin, sulfonylureas or insulin. It works gradually, and the full effect may take several weeks. Take it once a day, with or without food, at the same time each day.
Eating a balanced diet, limiting sugary foods, staying active and keeping a healthy weight are essential for diabetes control. Weigh yourself regularly, as this medicine can cause weight gain and fluid retention.
Do not take this medicine if you have heart failure, a history of bladder cancer, or blood in the urine that has not been checked. Pioglitazone can cause fluid retention, weight gain and a higher risk of bone fractures. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, eye problems such as macular oedema, or osteoporosis, and about other medicines you take. Your doctor will check your liver function. It can cause low blood sugar when taken with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for rapid weight gain, swelling, breathlessness, blood in the urine or pain when passing urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
