Pioglitazone helps the body's cells respond better to insulin that is already present, which lowers blood sugar and improves glycaemic control, and it may also help restore insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications with sustained use.
Take this tablet daily, with or without food, exactly as your doctor prescribes, and continue for the duration advised, since the full benefit builds up over several weeks.
Tell your doctor if you have heart failure, liver disease, or a history of bladder cancer, as pioglitazone needs particular caution in these conditions. Watch for swelling of the ankles or feet, unexplained weight gain, or blood in the urine, and report these to your doctor.
