Permtrin Cream is a medicine applied to the skin, used to treat scabies, a skin infestation caused by mites burrowing into the skin. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing permethrin, and belongs to a class of medicines called synthetic pyrethroid scabicides.
This medicine works by killing the scabies mites and their eggs, which relieves the intense itching and rash and lowers the chance of the infestation returning. It can be used in adults and children. Apply it to the whole body from the neck downwards as your doctor advises, leave it on for the recommended time and then wash it off. Repeat treatment only if your doctor tells you to.
Washing bedding, clothing and towels in hot water on the day of treatment helps prevent reinfestation. Treating close household contacts at the same time, if your doctor advises, helps stop the infestation spreading. Itching may continue for a few weeks after the mites are gone.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any existing skin conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are using other medicines or skin products. Keep it away from your eyes, mouth and open wounds. Check with your doctor if you notice worsening irritation, rash or swelling.
