CompositionSolearwax Ear Drops are ear drops used to soften and loosen excess or hardened earwax and to relieve the discomfort it causes. It is a combination medicine containing benzocaine, a local anaesthetic that numbs pain, chlorbutol, a mild antiseptic, and paradichlorobenzene and turpentine oil, which help dissolve wax, and belongs to a class of medicines called cerumenolytics (wax-softening agents).
This medicine works by softening and breaking down hardened earwax so that it can drain or be removed more easily, while the numbing ingredient eases irritation. This helps relieve itching, a feeling of fullness and reduced hearing caused by blocked ears. Use the drops in the affected ear exactly as your doctor directs, and wash your hands before and after use without touching the tip of the bottle to your ear.
Warming the bottle slightly in your hands before use can make the drops more comfortable to apply. Do not push cotton buds or other objects into the ear, as this can pack the wax further in or damage the ear canal.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have a perforated eardrum, ear discharge or an ear infection, or if you are using any other ear medicines. Contact your doctor straight away if you notice severe ear pain, discharge, ringing in the ears or hearing loss.
