Okeron 100 Injection 1 ML is used for the following:

• Managing acromegaly

• Controlling symptoms of carcinoid tumours

• Treating vasoactive intestinal peptide-secreting tumours

• Stopping bleeding from oesophageal varices

• Preventing complications after pancreatic surgery

• Managing symptoms of gastrinomas

• Controlling hormone levels in glucagonomas

• Regulating excessive hormone production in insulinomas

• Reducing secretions in neuroendocrine tumours

Follow these instructions when Okeron 100 Injection 1 ML is administered:

• This medicine must only be administered by a healthcare professional.

• The injection can be given under the skin or into a vein.

• Injection sites should be rotated regularly to prevent local reactions.

• The affected area should be cleaned before administration.

• Keep all scheduled appointments for receiving this medicine.

Okeron 100 Injection 1 ML is administered subcutaneously or intravenously.

Okeron 100 Injection 1 ML contains octreotide (100 mcg), which works on your body in the following ways:

• Mimics natural hormone: Octreotide acts as a synthetic version of somatostatin, a hormone naturally produced in your body.

• Controls hormone release: It binds to specific receptors in your body to reduce the production of several hormones, including growth hormone, insulin, glucagon, and various digestive hormones.

• Reduces intestinal secretions: Octreotide decreases the amount of fluid secreted in your intestines, which helps manage diarrhoea associated with certain conditions.

• Slows gut movement: It reduces the speed at which food moves through your digestive system, helping to control symptoms like diarrhoea.

• Constricts blood vessels: Octreotide narrows certain blood vessels in your digestive system, which helps control bleeding from enlarged veins in the oesophagus.

• Store Okeron 100 Injection 1 ML in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C.

• Keep the injection protected from light.

• Never freeze the medicine.

• The medicine can be kept at room temperature for up to 14 days if refrigeration isn't available.

• Keep out of sight and reach of children.

• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

• If you have acromegaly (a condition where your body produces too much growth hormone), try to maintain regular physical activity as it helps improve your overall health and may help manage some symptoms.

• For those with carcinoid syndrome, avoid foods that trigger flushing and diarrhoea, such as spicy foods, alcohol, and large meals, as these can worsen your symptoms.
