It is also used in Graves' disease and may be used to prepare for thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment. Take it in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor.
Keeping all follow-up appointments and regular thyroid function and blood tests is important, as your dose may need to change as hormone levels settle.
Contact your doctor urgently if you have fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, unusual bruising or signs of infection, as these can point to a serious blood-cell problem. Also report yellowing of the skin or eyes or severe abdominal pain. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
