CompositionMicrocef O Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections and certain sexually transmitted infections. It is a combination medicine containing cefpodoxime, a cephalosporin antibiotic, and ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and belongs to a class of medicines called antibiotics.
This medicine works by combining two antibiotics that act in different ways to damage bacteria and stop them multiplying, giving wider cover for infections that may involve several types of bacteria. Take it exactly as your doctor prescribes and complete the full course, even if your symptoms improve early.
Avoid bright sunlight and use sun protection, as ofloxacin can make your skin more sensitive to UV light. Keep a gap of about 2 hours between this tablet and antacids, multivitamins with minerals such as iron or zinc, and dairy products, as they can reduce absorption.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, tendon problems, myasthenia gravis, long QT syndrome, G6PD deficiency, a known allergy to antibiotics, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop and tell your doctor straight away if you feel tendon pain or swelling. This medicine is not for children under 18 years and works only against bacterial infections, so completing the course helps prevent antibiotic resistance.
