CompositionMesacol CR 500 mg Tablet is used to manage mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease affecting the lining of the colon and rectum. It is also used to maintain remission after symptoms have improved. This single-ingredient medicine contains mesalazine 500 mg, also called mesalamine or 5-aminosalicylic acid, and belongs to a group of medicines known as intestinal anti-inflammatory agents.
Mesacol CR 500 mg Tablet is a controlled-release formulation that acts locally in the intestine to reduce inflammation. Different mesalazine brands may release the medicine in different parts of the intestine. Therefore, do not change the prescribed brand or formulation without consulting your doctor.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, asthma, an active stomach or duodenal ulcer, a bleeding disorder, or a narrowing or blockage in your gastrointestinal tract. Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you take.
Seek urgent medical attention if you develop severe abdominal pain or cramps, bloody diarrhoea, chest pain, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, a severe or blistering rash, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, sore throat, extreme tiredness, or changes in the amount or colour of your urine.
