Meftal Spas Tablet 10

Meftal-Spas Tablet is used for short-term relief of painful smooth-muscle spasm when prescribed; it is not a routine long-term treatment for irritable bowel syndrome.

Uses of Meftal-Spas Tablet are:

• Menstrual Cramps: Relieves pain from primary dysmenorrhoea.
• Spasmodic Abdominal Pain: May relieve selected short-term intestinal or visceral spasm after medical assessment.
• Short-Term Pain Relief: Combines an antispasmodic with an NSAID for brief treatment when both spasm and pain are present.

• Always take Meftal Spas Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor - do not self-adjust the dose.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, break, or chew.
• Take with or immediately after food to reduce the risk of gastric irritation.
• Do not take more than the prescribed number of tablets per day. Exceeding the dose increases the risk of stomach ulcers, kidney damage, and cardiovascular events.
• Take the medicine for the duration prescribed by your doctor; do not stop abruptly without consulting your doctor.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember - unless your next dose is due within 2 hours. Never double-dose.

Meftal Spas Tablet is administered orally. 

Meftal Spas Tablet 10 composition contains Dicyclomine (10 Mg) + Mefenamic Acid (250 Mg) as its active ingredients.

• Dicyclomine Hydrochloride (10 mg) [Antispasmodic]:
  • Target Tissue: Acts primarily on the smooth muscle walls of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Action: Blocks muscarinic receptors to stop acetylcholine signals, while directly relaxing intestinal muscles.
  • Result: Relieves hypermotility, stomach cramps, and painful spasms linked to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and bowel disorders.
• Mefenamic Acid (250 mg) [NSAID]:
  • Target Tissue: Acts systemically throughout the body, with high efficacy in the uterine lining.
  • Action: Inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes to block the production of inflammatory chemicals called prostaglandins (specifically PGE2 and PGF2α).
  • Result: Helps reduce the uterine contractions associated with menstrual cramps (primary dysmenorrhoea), reduces localised inflammation, and provides mild fever relief.

The combination of these two medicines provides a dual-action approach. While mefenamic acid targets the inflammatory aspect of pain, dicyclomine helps relax spasms in the gut, reducing abdominal pain and cramps.

• Meftal Spas tablets should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.
• Please protect it from light and moisture.
• Keep away from children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.

• For Menstrual Pain (Dysmenorrhoea):
  • Apply a warm heat pad to the lower abdomen. Heat relaxes uterine muscles and significantly reduces cramping.
  • Light aerobic exercise (walking, yoga) during non-painful days of the cycle may reduce cycle-to-cycle severity over time.
  • Anti-inflammatory foods (omega-3 rich fish, leafy greens) may support reduced prostaglandin activity.
  • Limit caffeine and high-salt foods during periods. These can worsen bloating and cramps.
  • Keep hydrated - dehydration can worsen muscle cramps.
• For Abdominal Spasm / IBS:
  • Identify and avoid personal trigger foods (common triggers: dairy, gluten, high-FODMAP vegetables).
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals to reduce gut distension.
  • Manage stress - psychological stress significantly worsens IBS symptoms and spasm frequency.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks and high-fat foods during symptomatic periods.
