Unlike older steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, finerenone specifically targets inflammation and fibrosis in the kidney and heart with less risk of hormone-related side effects.
It contains finerenone 10 mg. Take it as prescribed at the same time each day, with or without food. Your doctor will check your blood potassium and kidney function before starting treatment and during treatment, as finerenone can raise potassium levels. The dose may be adjusted based on these results.
Following your prescribed diet (which may include potassium restriction), taking other diabetes and cardiovascular medicines as prescribed, and attending all monitoring blood tests are essential alongside this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any high potassium levels, severe kidney impairment, adrenal gland problems, or other medicines. Tell your doctor promptly about muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, or unusual tiredness, which can be signs of high potassium. Avoid potassium supplements and salt substitutes containing potassium unless directed. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
