Irinot 100 MG Injection 5 ML is used for the following:

• Treatment of advanced colorectal cancer

• Management of metastatic colorectal cancer

• First-line therapy for spreading bowel cancer

• Secondary treatment when other cancer therapies fail

• Part of the combination therapy for colon cancer

• Managing recurrent colorectal malignancies

Follow these instructions when Irinot 100 MG Injection 5 ML is administered:

• This medicine must only be administered by qualified healthcare staff in a clinical setting.

• The infusion typically takes about 90 minutes to complete.

• Stay well-hydrated before and after receiving this medicine.

• Report any unusual feelings during administration immediately.

Irinot 100 MG Injection 5 ML is administered intravenously.

Irinot 100 MG Injection 5 ML contains irinotecan (100 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Topoisomerase I inhibition: Irinotecan and its active metabolite SN-38 bind to the topoisomerase I-DNA complex, preventing the rejoining of DNA strands that have been cut by this enzyme.

• DNA damage induction: Irinotecan stabilises the topoisomerase I-DNA complex, preventing the re-ligation of single-strand breaks. These lesions can convert into double-strand breaks during DNA replication, leading to apoptosis.

• Cancer cell death: The accumulated DNA damage in rapidly dividing cancer cells triggers cell death mechanisms, preventing tumour growth and spread.

• Selective action: Irinotecan primarily affects rapidly dividing cells, including cancer cells and certain normal cells such as those in the gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow, which contributes to both its effectiveness and side effects

• Store Irinot 100 MG Injection 5 ML at room temperature below 25°C.

• Keep the vial protected from light.

• Do not freeze the medicine.

• Store all medicines out of reach of children.

• Check the expiry date before use and never use after this date.

• Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids during your colorectal cancer treatment, as this helps manage side effects like diarrhoea, which commonly occurs with Irinot 100 MG Injection 5 ML.

• Consider eating smaller, more frequent meals rather than large ones to help maintain your nutrition and energy levels while managing the appetite loss that often accompanies cancer treatment.
