Grilinctus Syrup is a cough and cold medicine used to relieve dry cough linked to bronchitis, allergies and upper respiratory tract infections. It is a combination medicine containing ammonium chloride and guaifenesin (expectorants that loosen mucus), chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine that eases allergy symptoms such as a runny nose) and dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant), and belongs to a class of medicines called cough and cold combinations.
This medicine works by calming the cough centre in the brain, loosening and thinning mucus so it is easier to cough up, and blocking the allergy chemical histamine to reduce a runny nose. Measure the syrup with the measuring cup provided and take it as directed by your doctor, with or without food. Do not take more than the recommended dose.
Drinking plenty of warm fluids, avoiding smoke, dust and other irritants, and resting your voice can ease a cough alongside this medicine. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you, as it may cause drowsiness.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have asthma, a long-term or smoker's cough, liver problems, glaucoma or difficulty passing urine, or if you take antidepressants or other medicines that cause sleepiness. It is not for children under 4 years of age unless their doctor advises it, and you should ask your doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek urgent help for skin rash, swelling of the lips, face or tongue, difficulty breathing, or severe drowsiness or confusion after taking too much.
