CompositionDianorm-M Tablet 15 is used to control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes, together with diet and exercise, when a single medicine is not enough. It is a combination medicine containing gliclazide, a sulfonylurea, and metformin, a biguanide.
Gliclazide helps the pancreas release more insulin, while metformin reduces the sugar made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Good blood sugar control lowers the risk of long-term complications affecting the eyes, kidneys and nerves. Take it with meals, as prescribed, and do not skip meals after taking it.
Eating regular, balanced meals, limiting sugary foods and drinks, being active and keeping a healthy weight are essential. Carry a sugary snack in case of low blood sugar, and check your blood sugar as advised.
This medicine can cause low blood sugar, especially if you miss meals, drink alcohol or exercise more than usual; symptoms include shaking, sweating, hunger and confusion, and should be treated straight away with sugar or glucose. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, heart failure, G6PD deficiency or drink alcohol heavily, and about other medicines you take. Your doctor may pause it before surgery or scans using contrast dye. Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek urgent help for unusual muscle pain, fast breathing, stomach pain and extreme tiredness. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
