Age and Dose Restrictions

• This combination is not recommended for children under 18 years.

Contraindications

• Gliclazide + Metformin is contraindicated in individuals with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), severe kidney or liver disease, or allergy to sulfonylureas or biguanides. Patients with frequent hypoglycemia episodes should also avoid this combination.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Avoid taking this combination with antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin), antifungals (fluconazole), beta-blockers (propranolol, atenolol), diuretics (furosemide), corticosteroids (prednisolone), and antidepressants (fluoxetine, sertraline). Always inform your doctor about any medications you are taking to prevent unwanted interactions.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Gliclazide + Metformin can lead to severe hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, which can be dangerous. Symptoms include confusion, excessive sweating, rapid heartbeat, and fainting. If an overdose occurs, consume a sugar source immediately and seek medical attention.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if your next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

• To manage hypoglycemia, consume a fast-acting sugar source like fruit juice, glucose tablets, or a sugary snack. If symptoms persist, seek medical help. For nausea or stomach discomfort, taking medication with food may help. Patients experiencing weight gain should follow a balanced diet and exercise regularly.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Gliclazide + Metformin may cause dizziness or drowsiness, especially if blood sugar levels drop too low. It is advised to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you are aware of how this combination affects you.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• This combination is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If diabetes management is required during pregnancy, a doctor may recommend alternative medications.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Gliclazide + Metformin should be used with caution in individuals with kidney or liver disease, adrenal or pituitary disorders, heart problems, vitamin B12 deficiency, and those prone to frequent hypoglycemia. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is necessary to prevent complications.
