- The relaxation of blood vessels leads to decreased peripheral resistance decreasing blood pressure.
- Nifedipine also relaxes the coronary arteries, improving blood flow to the heart muscle. This improved blood flow helps relieve chest pain (angina) by reducing the workload on the heart.
- Additionally, nifedipine can be used to manage preterm labour by relaxing the smooth muscles of the uterus.
