CompositionClofert 100 Tablet 5 is used to treat infertility in women who do not ovulate (release an egg) regularly, including women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing clomifene citrate 100mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called ovulation stimulants (selective oestrogen receptor modulators).
This medicine encourages the brain to release hormones that stimulate the ovaries to develop and release an egg. It is usually taken for 5 days early in the menstrual cycle, exactly as your fertility doctor directs, and your response may be checked with scans or blood tests. It is not usually used for more than 6 cycles.
Keeping a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet, being active, not smoking and limiting alcohol can improve fertility. Timing intercourse as advised by your doctor increases the chance of conception.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, or have liver disease, unexplained vaginal bleeding, ovarian cysts not caused by PCOS, or certain hormone-related tumours. It increases the chance of twins or more. Seek medical help straight away if you develop severe stomach pain or swelling, sudden weight gain, nausea with vomiting, or breathlessness, which can signal ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Stop taking it and contact your doctor if you notice blurred vision, spots or flashes of light. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
