CompositionClavam BID Dry Syrup is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including ear, throat, sinus and chest infections. It is a combination antibiotic medicine containing amoxicillin, a penicillin, and clavulanic acid, which helps amoxicillin work against bacteria that would otherwise resist it.
This medicine is also used to treat skin, soft tissue and urinary tract infections caused by bacteria. The powder needs to be mixed with water before use; your pharmacist may do this, or you can add cooled boiled water up to the mark and shake well. Store the mixed syrup in the fridge and use it within the time stated on the label. Give it at the start of a meal, in the dose prescribed by the doctor, and complete the full course.
Giving the medicine at the start of a meal can reduce stomach upset. Make sure your child drinks enough fluids and gets plenty of rest while recovering.
Before giving this medicine, tell your child's doctor if your child is allergic to penicillin or other antibiotics, has had jaundice or liver problems with this medicine before, has glandular fever, or has kidney problems, and about other medicines your child takes. Contact the doctor straight away if your child develops a widespread rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, severe or bloody diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Do not stop giving this medicine unless the doctor advises you to do so.
