Clavam Drops comprises two active ingredients:

• Amoxicillin (80 mg): This semi-synthetic penicillin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are vital for linking peptidoglycan chains - fundamental components of bacterial cell walls. By halting cell wall synthesis, amoxicillin weakens the bacterial cell wall, causing the cell to break apart and die.
• Clavulanic Acid (11.4 mg): This ingredient is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Its structure is similar to penicillin and can attach itself irreversibly to beta-lactamases, preventing them from breaking down amoxicillin. This action enhances amoxicillin's antibacterial spectrum to include bacteria that produce beta-lactamases and would otherwise be resistant.

Working together, amoxicillin and clavulanic acid offer effective coverage against a wide range of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
