Ciflox Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, bones, joints and gut. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ciprofloxacin, and belongs to a class of medicines called fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
This medicine works by stopping bacteria from copying their genetic material, which kills them and clears the infection. Take it as your doctor prescribes, with or without food, and swallow the tablet with a full glass of water. Complete the full course even if you begin to feel better, to help prevent antibiotic resistance.
Drink plenty of fluids during treatment and protect your skin from strong sunlight, as this medicine can make it more sensitive to UV light. Keep a gap of at least 2 hours between this medicine and antacids or dairy products, as they reduce how well it is absorbed.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, epilepsy, tendon problems or have had an allergic reaction to a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and about any other medicines you take. Stop the medicine and contact your doctor at once if you have tendon pain or swelling, as fluoroquinolones can damage tendons. It works only against bacterial infections, not colds or flu.
