Budez CR Capsule 10 is used to treat mild to moderate Crohn's disease affecting the lower part of the small intestine (ileum) and the first part of the large intestine. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing budesonide in a controlled-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called corticosteroids (steroids).
This medicine is also used to treat microscopic colitis, a condition that causes long-lasting watery diarrhoea. The capsule releases budesonide in the gut, where most of it acts locally, so it causes fewer whole-body side effects than steroid tablets such as prednisolone. Swallow the capsule whole in the morning, without crushing or chewing, as prescribed. Your doctor will usually reduce the dose gradually at the end of treatment.
Eating a balanced diet, avoiding foods that worsen your symptoms, staying well hydrated and not smoking can support recovery during flare-ups. Avoid grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, an infection such as tuberculosis, chickenpox or measles exposure, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, glaucoma or cataracts, and about other medicines you take, especially certain antifungals and HIV medicines. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you develop signs of infection, blurred vision, or mood changes. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
