Avomine Tablet is used to prevent and relieve nausea and vomiting, including travel (motion) sickness. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing promethazine theoclate, which belongs to a class of medicines called phenothiazine antihistamines.
This medicine is also used to relieve vertigo and dizziness caused by inner ear disorders, such as Meniere's disease and labyrinthitis (inflammation of the inner ear). For travel sickness, your doctor may advise taking it before your journey. Swallow the tablet with water, in the dose and for the duration prescribed by your doctor.
When travelling, sitting where there is least movement, looking at the horizon, getting fresh air and avoiding heavy meals or alcohol before the journey can help reduce motion sickness.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have epilepsy, glaucoma, difficulty passing urine or an enlarged prostate, asthma or breathing problems, or liver or kidney disease, and about other medicines you take. It is not suitable for children under 2 years of age. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It can cause drowsiness, so do not drive and avoid alcohol if affected.
