APIXAZEN 5 TABLET 10 is a medicine used to lower the risk of stroke and clots in people with an irregular heartbeat (non-valvular atrial fibrillation). It is also used to treat and prevent clots in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) and lungs (pulmonary embolism), and to prevent clots after hip or knee replacement surgery.
It belongs to a group of medicines called anticoagulants (factor Xa inhibitors), often called blood thinners, which reduce the blood's tendency to clot. Take it exactly as directed at the same times each day, and do not stop it without medical advice, as this can raise the risk of a clot.
Some general measures help alongside this medicine. These include taking care to avoid cuts and injuries and telling any healthcare professional that you take a blood thinner.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any bleeding problems, liver or kidney problems, or other medicines you take, and tell your doctor or dentist that you take it before any surgery or dental work. Report any unusual or prolonged bleeding, blood in the urine or stools, or a severe headache straight away.
