Xone XP Injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, bones and joints, and the bloodstream. It is a combination antibiotic medicine containing ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin, and tazobactam, which protects ceftriaxone from bacteria that would otherwise break it down.
This medicine is also used to help prevent infection during certain surgical procedures. It is given by a healthcare professional as an injection or drip into a vein, or an injection into a muscle, and your doctor will decide the dose and how long treatment lasts.
Drinking enough fluids and getting plenty of rest, unless your doctor advises otherwise, can support recovery.
Before treatment, tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins or any other antibiotic, or have liver, kidney or gallbladder disease or a history of colitis, and about other medicines you take, especially calcium-containing drips. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell your healthcare team straight away if you notice a rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, severe or bloody diarrhoea, or pain in the upper right side of your tummy. Do not stop the treatment unless your doctor advises you to do so.
