Whole Liver Extra Injection 10 ML is used as supplemental treatment for vitamin B12 deficiency and megaloblastic anaemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. It is a combination medicine containing Liver Fraction 1 derived from fresh liver, with vitamin B12 activity equivalent to not less than 2 mcg of cyanocobalamin per mL, and lignocaine hydrochloride 1% w/v. It belongs to the class of liver extract preparations with a local anaesthetic.
This medicine may be used when a doctor considers parenteral vitamin B12 supplementation appropriate, particularly when vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with impaired red blood cell formation. It should be administered by a healthcare professional in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by the doctor.
A diet containing vitamin B12-rich foods such as eggs, milk, fish and meat may help support vitamin B12 intake when suitable for you. However, dietary measures should not replace prescribed treatment, particularly when vitamin B12 absorption is impaired.
Before receiving this medicine, inform your doctor about any allergies, pre-existing medical conditions and all medicines, supplements or herbal products you use. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Follow the prescribed treatment schedule and report any persistent or serious side effects. Do not stop or change the treatment unless your doctor advises you to do so.
