UDCA-300 Tablet is used to treat and dissolve cholesterol gallstones in patients with a functional gallbladder who are not suitable for surgery. It contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid, a naturally occurring bile acid that works by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver and inhibiting its absorption in the intestine. This decreases the cholesterol saturation in bile, allowing existing stones to gradually dissolve and preventing the formation of new ones.
The medication is also a primary treatment for Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), an autoimmune liver disease that damages the bile ducts. By replacing more toxic bile acids with its protective formula, it improves liver function and slows the progression of liver cirrhosis. Additionally, it is used to manage liver dysfunction in children with cystic fibrosis and to relieve itching in pregnancy-related cholestasis.
For the best therapeutic outcome, take the tablet whole with food or milk, preferably at a fixed time each day. Treatment for gallstones may last several months to two years, and your doctor may monitor your progress through regular liver function tests and ultrasounds. Inform your healthcare provider if you have acute gallbladder inflammation or are taking antacids, as these may interfere with the medication’s absorption.
